Turbocharged bandwagon

So the World Cup is in full effect now that it’s down to a few teams and close to the end. Good. I’m so tired of it. Soccer’s boring as hell to watch. But it’s not that I’m tired of the game; I’m tired of people jumping on the bandwagon. I may check out bits if a game is on at a place I’m at like a restaurant or a friend’s residence. But what gets me is when people get into it as if they were fans their whole lives. Patriotism is one thing, and I think I may root for my country to win, too. Maybe. But I’m not going to act like I’ve been following the sport years, know the stats, or start calling Penalty Kicks “PKs.” It reminds me when I used to follow the Chicago Bulls. I followed them before they were the best team in the history of basketball (if I don’t say so myself), and I was right there for my precious Bulls when they were winning championship after championship. (Man I miss those days.) I was annoyed when the finals would come around, and then all of a sudden, there was an influx of people painting themselves, wearing the jersey, donning Bulls hats, and quoting statistics. Where the hell were you before? And when the season is over, and the season resumes several months later, where did they go? I was at a restaurant during lunch one day, and the bar was full of people cheering loudly. I know I shouldn’t let it bother me, but it kept eating at me knowing these people wouldn’t watch a single solitary soccer game until the next time the World Cup is on.

So people all over are jumping on the turbocharged bandwagon equipped with 24 inch chrome wheels and flames shooting out the back.
